The Age of Innocence...

Here is a funny exert from a conversation that I had with one of my students this week. As background, this is a 13 year old, hispanic male and we're studying about the revolution in history class.

Student: Why did the americans fight?
Me: To win freedom.
Student: If they won freedom why do we have so many rules? Why can't we just do whatever we want?
Me: Well, because freedom isn't just being able to do what you want. It's being able to have the freedom to choose what you want to do.
Student: Well that isn't fair. We aren't really free.
Me: Then you can go live somewhere else if you don't like it here.
Student: No. You can go live somewhere else because now that Obama is President he's going to deport you all.
Me: What?
Student: Yeah, instead of us getting deported, you all will be deported.
Me: That's not going to happen because the President can't do that.
Student: Yeah it will. Why do you think so many people voted for him. He's black so he'll kick out the white people.
Me: One day you'll learn.

Hope you enjoyed this exert from my day:) And just to clarify, this is not a political attack. It is just a funny conversation I had with a 13 year old.
